Here at BC Study Abroad, we are excited to announce a brand new program. We have gathered some talented and passionate Writers in Residence to share with students their study abroad experiences and firsthand knowledge and advice about study abroad. Starting in September 2015, we will be featuring stories of their most enlightening adventures.

Ever wonder what it would feel like to walk a portion of the Great Wall of China? To be a secondary student in Beijing? To visit the famous Tian’anmen Square and the Forbidden City? 40 lucky secondary school students from across B.C. got the chance to do just that. They spent 10 days engaging in cultural tours, visiting key Chinese landmarks, trying new cuisine, learning about Chinese history and testing out their mandarin skills at the annual Beijing International Student Summer Camp.

These 40 students weren't the only people at the camp though, there were other secondary school student from over 20 other countries. Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) is pleased to announce that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom has launched the competition for awards available to Canadians for graduate study at the PhD level in the United Kingdom (UK). These awards are funded by the United Kingdom Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in conjunction with UK universities.

2014 Beijing International Summer Camp Students at YVR

From July 12 -21 over 850 students from around the world will come together in Beijing, China for the 2014 Beijing International Student Summer Camp. 45 BC High School Students are attending the camp as representatives of Canada and will make up the largest cohort from any country in attendance! The students will learn about Chinese culture and visit historical sites in and around Beijing while meeting peers from 24 different countries. The camp will culminate in a Night of International Friendship where students will watch cultural performances representing each of the attending countries and will have the opportunity to share Canada’s rich history with others.
