Ever wonder what it would be like to study abroad in China and learn the Chinese lanugage at the undergraduate or graduate level?

The Chinese Government is offering scholarships for eligible British Columbia students to study abroad!

The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people around the world. It supports the development of cooperation and exchange in the fields of education, science, culture, economy and trade between China and other countries.

Are you currently taking Mandarin 12 at your high school? If you are, you may be eligible for the $500 BC-China Award for Excellence in Chinese!

In order to be eligible to apply for this award, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Ordinarily reside in BC
  • Be school-age (not older than 19 years of age by June 30, 2017)
  • Be enrolled as a full-time Grade 12 student at a public or independent school in BC
  • Have completed a Mandarin Chinese language course at the Grade 11 level in BC with a minimum course grade of 86% – course completion attained through challenge, equivalency or other course credit is not eligible

The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP)

UTRIP is a 6-week summer internship program for students majoring in natural science and other relevant fields. It provides students with an opportunity to gain the experience of "real graduate-school life" or "research-centered life." UTRIP is a gateway to pursuing an advanced degree and experiencing academic life at the university. Participants will also be granted financial support to cover their costs and expenses. They will also get the opportunity to take part in cultural activities and excursions to learn more about Japan.

British Columbia’s Ministry of Education announced that applications are now open for the Student Exchange Mobility Awards, which provides funding for groups of K-12 British Columbia students traveling with their teachers.
