Reede Lowery

Reede Lowery, Northern Lights College, winner of the BC Study Abroad: Stories from Abroad Scholarship

My name is Reede Lowery and I am from a small town in Northern British Columbia. Currently, I am living in Japan as a foreign exchange student. I am studying the Japanese language and culture at a small university in Osaka. I chose to study in Japan for two reasons. First, I love classic Japanese literature. I am very passionate about reading and have developed a strong fascination with the unique style of Japanese literature. My favourite piece of Japanese literature is The Tale of Genji which is often referred to as the world's first legitimate novel. I hope that by improving my Japanese language skills I can greater appreciate my favourite books. The second reason I came to Japan is because I want to teach English there as a career. I want to be able to teach English in a way that is both fun and engaging. My time here will hopefully give me the experience and knowledge to do that.
