+ 2018 MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Government of Japan is currently accepting applications for its 2018 Undergraduate Scholarship for foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities. The scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly allowance and a round-trip flight between Canada and Japan.

The scholarship is open to high school graduates (as of March 2018) born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2001, who would like to study and complete an undergraduate degree at a university in Japan.

The application guide and forms can be accessed through the Embassy of Japan's website. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is June 9, 2017. All eligible applicants will be invited for an interview and examinations (subjects as per the application guidelines) on a date determined by the Consulate General of Japan. Interviews and examinations must be conducted in-person at the Consulate General of Japan's offices.

+ 2018 MEXT Research Student Scholarship

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Government of Japan is currently accepting applications for its 2018 Research Student Scholarship for foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities. The scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly allowance and a round-trip flight between Canada and Japan.

The Research Student Scholarship is aimed at university graduates, born on or after April 2, 1983 (for the 2018 scholarship year) who wish to study as research students. The research study area should be the same field that the applicant has studied or a related field. The term of the scholarship is 18 months to two years (including 6 months of Japanese language training) starting in April or October 2018.

Application guides and forms are available on the Embassy of Japan's website. Deadline for the 2018 scholarship year: May 19, 2017.

Applicants who successfully pass the written application screening are required to undertake an interview and examination (English and Japanese language) to be held in late June or July.

+ Stories from Abroad: $1000 British Columbia Study Abroad Scholarship

Your eligibility to apply for this scholarship is based on the following:

  1. You are currently enrolled at a BCSA Consortium institution
  2. You are currently enrolled in a short-term study abroad program or have been accepted into a short-term study abroad program in the current calendar year

Expectations

In return for the $1000 scholarship the chosen student will need to submit the following to be uploaded onto our BCSA Blog:

  • One 300-400 word blog post (with a photo) pre-departure
  • One 300-400 word blog post (with a photo) throughout the duration of the study abroad program
  • One 300-400 word blog post (with a photo) once the study abroad program has finished and the student has returned to BC
  • 8-10 high resolution photos (in JPEG format) upon completion of the student’s study abroad program
    • In an accompanying Word document, supply the following information for each photo: Image File Name, Location (Geotag), Caption
  • A short presentation at the student's home institution once back in BC
