Japan , Asia Past Program Interdisciplinary Geography

This field course offers participants the opportunity to learn first-hand about the human and environmental geography of Japan and gain field experience analyzing the planning of Japanese neighbourhoods. The itinerary includes field studies in both the greater Tokyo area and in and around Uji (Kamloops' sister city), along with a proposed home-stay experience, and a visit to Hirosaki City and area in Aomori Prefecture, northern Japan.

Destination: Tokyo Japan

Date of Trip:  May 8th - 22nd 2019

Number of Days: 14 days - Based in metropolitan Tokyo with excursions and experiential learning activities; and excursions to the Kyoto - Uji area, and Hirosaki City area.

Preparatory Classes & Orientation: Tue., 530-820pm (not all Tuesdays, nor for the entire 3 hours - in 2014, we met eight times before departing for Japan)

  • Submit the completed application in person with $300 deposit (cheque)
  • Application and cheque made out to: Tom Waldichuk, AE 135.
  • You can also submit your deposit using a credit card at the cashier's office in Old Main.

NOTE: An interview will be required as part of the selection process.
