Visit Paris, France and study its dynamic urban visual environment in connection to the modernist sensibility of the flaneur and the Impressionists, while learning about the city through the lens of art history and contemporary studio practices. Then travel to Kassel, Germany to experience DOCUMENTA—the world's most prestigious contemporary art exhibition, held once every 5 years as a showcase of the best of global contemporary art. This is truly a trip of a lifetime—come join KPU's Fine Arts Field School Paris/Documenta and travel and learn alongside your fellow classmates and KPU faculty.

Tentative Itinerary

SCHEDULED ITINERARY *travel dates subject to slight revision pending final reservations, but will occur in June.

MAY 8-26: Classes at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Surrey Campus

JUNE 3: Depart for Paris, France for 2 weeks of scheduled gallery and museum visits

JUNE 17: Depart for Kassel, Germany via train and attend Documenta 14 Exhibition

JUNE 22: Depart for Vancouver or continue your European travels!

Cost Program fee: $3000

A $500 non-refundable deposit is payable by January 31, 2017. Fee includes accommodation, city transportation and airport/train transfer, museum/gallery/exhibition and Documenta admissions, and 3 group meals. Flight, personal expenses, most meals and tuition are not included in the fee.

Several field school scholarships are available for applicants click here to check scholarship information. Applications from college and university students outside of KPU will be accepted and considered based on the completion of equivalent course pre-requisites. Some offered courses are transferable between institutions as per the BC Transfer Guide.

Classes Offered

ARTS 1100: Urban Imaginations-- Cultures of Creativity in Cities

ARTH 3100: Paris, The Art and Spectacle of Modern Life

FINA 3202: Contemporary Open Studio, Modernist Themes

Classes are instructed by KPU Faculty members. Students can enroll in up to 9 credits of courses (ARTS 1100, ARTH 3100 and FINA 3202) with at least 3 credits comprising ARTH 3100 or FINA 3202. No studio art experience is needed to enroll in ARTS 1100 or ARTH 3100.

Pre-requisites

ARTS 1100: none; ARTH 3100: Any 6 credits of first or second year art history courses or 18 credits of any level university courses, or permission of the Instructor; FINA 3202: Any 6 credits of first or second year studio/design courses, or permission of the Instructor.
